A Promise Kept

"For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."  Jeremiah 31:34

When God makes a promise, he keeps it.  Not just for the time being and not just for a lifetime.  God's promises are forever.  In this verse, God is speaking a promise to the people of Israel

Later on in verse 36 we read, "Only if these decrees vanish from my sight will the descendants of Israel ever cease to be a nation before me."  Here God is recalling the promise he made to Abraham that his descendants would become a great nation and numbered as the grains of sand.

It's been thousands of years since God made that promise to Abraham.  Have you ever stopped to consider the number of governments, cultures, and religious movements that have tried to wipe out the people of Israel ?  Try as they have, Israel has never ceased to be a nation before God.  He keeps all of his promises!

God makes the same promise to all of us who have called upon the name of his son, Jesus Christ.  Through the blood of Jesus, God has forgiven us and remembers our sins no more.

And because God sealed this promise with the death and resurrection of his son, even the gates of hell cannot prevail against us!  So don't worry or become distracted from this great hope. Just believe, for our victory is already won.
