Stuck on Hold

Dear Single Way -

I'm single and thirtyish.  I'd love to find the right person and get married one of these days.  But there's no likely prospect right this minute.  So I feel like my life is just on hold.  There's a ton of things I'd like to do.  But when I do find someone, everything will be different and my life will be turned upside down.  So why get involved in anything right now since it will all change when I find “the one?”

-----Stuck on Hold

Dear Stuck:

Sometimes finding Mr. or Ms. Right seems to take forever!  It's like sitting “on hold” with the phone by your ear.  You're listening to music you didn't choose.  A voice breaks in.  But you soon realize it was just a recording and you're back to that insipid music.  It's just no fun to be stuck on hold waiting for your charming future mate to miraculously answer.

We suspect this isn't the way God wants you to live.  Did you know that when God formed you in your mother's womb, he already had a specific destiny in mind for you?  He blessed you and shaped you for his good purposes.  Putting your life on hold wasn't one of them.

It sounds like you feel bottled up and held back.  Have you ever considered that your longing to do things might be coming from God?  After all, he gives us the desires of our hearts.  Maybe you feel bottled up because Christ is drawing you out of your chair and toward the horizon that he has set for you.

Think about it.  If God has a mate for you, why would he make it difficult for you to connect?  Wouldn't he just put him or her in your path?  But if you haven't got a path, how will you find each other?  Seems like you'd be better off pursuing God's will for your life instead of waiting.

Now let's talk about your world turning upside down.  Consider this. You'll be busy doing what God asks.  Your potential mate will be too.  When you meet along the same path, your lives won't turn upside down.  They'll just merge.

Does this sound too easy?  Then try our acid test.  When you meet possible candidates, see if they show up in other places where you go.  Are they doing the same things that you are?  If you're actively working God's plan and you consistently run into the same person, maybe you've found your mate.

So don't be bottled up.  Get busy following God's design for your life.  Why not switch from call waiting to call forwarding?  God, the cosmic telephone operator, will connect you to your chosen mate.
